LAHORE – The Punjab government has decided to procure four million metric ton wheat from farmers and 376 wheat procurement centres have been set up throughout the province in this regard, said Bilal Yasin, the provincial minister for food.
The minister said that wheat procurement would be started from April 25 and all arrangements have been made in this regard. He directed Sialkot DFC Rohail Butt to ensure facilities to the cultivators at wheat procurement centres according to government instructions.
Yasin said that no irregularity or corruption would be tolerated in wheat procurement and disciplinary action would be taken against the officials displaying negligence in this regard. He said that the government has increased support price of wheat from Rs 1200 to Rs 1300 per maund while delivery charges would be paid at the rate of nine rupees per maund to the farmers.
He said that wheat would not be procured from any middleman or dealer. He said that real time data entry software has been prepared by the Punjab Information Technology Board in which particulars of farmers would be entered in detail and monitoring would also be done through it.
