LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday dismissed a petition seeking conversion of Punjab’s Governor House into an educational institution.
Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh heard the petition filed by Barrister Javed Iqbal Jafree and reserved the verdict after hearing arguments of the parties on Thursday – which was announced today.
Earlier, the petitioner submitted that the office of the governor was symbolic but the huge premises allocated for his residence was unjustified and the best use of the premises could only be an educational institution.
However, a deputy attorney general submitted that the status of the governor house could not be changed due to its historical significance. He said that the president had issued a notification declaring the governor house as ‘official residency’ – under Article 101 of the constitution. He had requested the court to reject the petition.
