Former Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney has voiced his opinion over who he thinks is the best player to have ever graced football, and that is Barcelona captain Lionel Messi.
According to Spanish paper AS, Rooney picked Messi over Juventus’ Cristiano Ronaldo as his world’s greatest footballer. The reason why he thinks so is because Rooney believes Messi has ‘a bit of everything’.
“Messi has a bit of everything. Ronaldo has gone from being a winger to a forward. He is more of a one-touch, two-touch to goal forward, but Messi has a bit of everything,” Rooney said.
The former England captain continued his praise for Messi saying that he can score goals even when he is playing deep in the midfield. “Right now, I am here and I am walking on the pitch, but he continues to score goals from deep positions. Therefore, he is the best.”
Since becoming captain of FC Barcelona this season, Messi has scored a total of 11 goals in 11 games playing behind the striker in a more deeper role.
Barcelona will face table-toppers Sevilla in Spanish La Liga on Saturday at 11:45pm Pakistan Standard Time (PST).
