Acute water shortage in the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board localities has forced the residents to buy water tankers on excessive rates. The areas of RCB including Ganjmandi, Afshan Colony, Saddar, Misrial Road, Range Road and Kohinoor Mills, besides Chungi No 22 and the surrounding area are also facing water shortage. The residents of Range Road complained that they had no water supply since the last one week and are forced to buy the water from taker mafia who charge them at their will in the holy month of Ramzan. Raja Atif, resident of RCB accused that the cantonment board officials have stopped the water supply only to reward the tanker mafia. He blamed that the RCB officials gets commission from the tanker mafia for creating a self-generated shortage. Taking the opportunity of water shortage, the tanker mafia has also increased their rate and charging up to Rs 3,000 for each tanker which is beyond the reach of common citizens to pay four to five times a month. Javed Mughal, resident of Ameer Hamza street said that there was no water supply in his street and localities since the holy month Ramzan started. “We have to buy water from tanker mafia at an exorbitant price”, he added.
