ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has finalised the name of Khyber PakhtunKhwa’s (KP) former education minister Atif Khan as the next chief minister of the province.
According to reports, former KP chief minister Pervez Khattak wanted to retain his position and was lobbying for this. As a substitute, Khattak backed former provincial assembly speaker Asad Qaisar for the CM post.
The PTI chairman had suggested the former KP chief minister to serve in the National Assembly rather than to retain his position this time.
Khattak had earlier claimed that he had support of 55 out of total 65 party MPA’s in the provincial assembly. “PTI got victory in the country due to my performance in the KP,” said the former chief minister in an interview.
However, sources say the PTI chairman was happy with the performance of Atif Khan as education minister in the province.
